Abstract:

Determining the three-dimensional position of a point in space requires the use of stereoscopic systems based in artificial vision. Existing systems require specific and controlled light sources (infrared light). This innovative system makes the localization of objects using stereoscopic vision with accessible and mature technology to several industries like entertainment, industrial, medicine, etc.

Background:

Determining the three-dimensional position of a point in space requires the use of stereoscopic systems based in artificial vision. Existing systems require specific and controlled light sources (infrared light) and a restrict application environment (low-light environment).

Benefits:

This innovative system makes the localization of objects using stereoscopic vision with acces-sible and mature technology to several industries like entertainment, industrial, medicine, etc. The use of LED high intensity light markers placed on the moving target and synchronized with a vision system enables a precise and faster detection of the target position. This sys¬tem is easier to install and configure and it uses standard and market oriented equipment.

Potential comercial use/applications:

Rapid teaching and programming of industrial manipulators using human demonstration. Remote control of manipulators: handling hazardous or heavy materials, telesurgery, etc. Mobile robot localization: AGV (automated guided vehicle) in industry, mobile robot for services, autonomous vehicles for human transportation, autonomous wheelchair, etc. Video games interactions as a technology for motion control.
